i just put a 48" coralife light on my 55 gallon tank. it has 1 regular light bulb and 1 purple light bulb. both are 10000k. there is a number on it it is F28-T5-BP. is this a good light???

do the bulbs look like a "U" shape at one end or are they straight? The "U" would be compact flourecent and the straight would be T5's. what do you plan to grow? the "U" would do softies and straight would do stoney and softey. How much did you pay? I generaly dont like coralife but thats just me.

2 bulbs will not keep sps, 4 bulbs will if they have individual reflectors. the 4 bulbs will not even keep clams, with good growth, unless it is using icecap ballasts.

Sounds like a basic T5 fixture. It's not HO, nor will they have individual reflectors, so you're limited to what you can grow. You can get away with softies, tho some of the higher light ones may not do all too well. Maybe some SPS, like digis or montis....but don't expect any crazy results.

they are straight t5. i think i need more power myself. i think i gonna get another light. i hought it was more powerful then it was when i bought it.

no. 28 i gonna get another one but i still got other one i cn use til i get i get it.

dont waste your money on those, pretty much useless for a reef. what is your budget for a light? needs, as in softies, rics, sps, lps, zoanthids? canopy? how much clearance in canopy?

you could get a t5 fixture or a MH fixture.

Might as well save $60-70.

Build a canopy and retro a mh; best bang for your buck.

Your light won't do much for you if you want corals.
