Well I just found this forum and im super excited!!
My name is Jeff and I live in Blairsville in the N. Ga mountains. Needless to say my LFS dont have a huge selection of corals so Im turning my head to the ATL!!! I just joined and I am a newbie to reefs. I have had SW tanks for many years (FOWLR) but never took the plunge into reefs.... until now!! My first tank is a 24 gallon Aquapod. I have 20 lbs of LR in it and its been going for about a week now. Hopefully I wont have a cycle bec I bought my LR from an owner of a LFS about an hour away (it came out of his 5 year old reef tank since he was re-designing it) he also gave me his live sand and water from his tank from a water change lol. So my tank should be set. So far I have 5 corals...
1 small mushroom (quarter size... was dime sized a week ago)
1 small ric (nickel size)
1 6 headed cluster of yellow polyps
1 4 head cluster of green zoa
1 very small frag of colt coral
all seems to be doing well and growing... params are perfect as of today except for nitrates which were just above 0 a couple of days ago but since have dropped back down.
For a CUC i have
8 tiny blue leg hermits
2 turbo snails
1 astrea snail
1 cerinth snail
I have found many hitchhikers over the weeks... most of them i love...
I have many asternia stars, mini serpent stars (counted about 6 hiding in the LR so far ), many pods, and a few bristleworms... not fireworms... and this is just what I have seen in the last 2 weeks!!
I have not made any mods so far to the AP its stock. The lighting is great but I will be upgrading the stock pump in the next week or 2. I did add a Koralia 1 for added flow and have a hillbilly "fuge" made from the clear plastic soap boxes from Wal-mart holding my calupera. The calupera is growing like mad, apparently it likes my tank and thank goodness its confined!! its growing through the ventilation holes in the soap dish so i will have to keep it in check but it looks awesome lol. I do have one question though. I would love to re-aquascape but i have heard that when ppl move the LR it causes a mini cycle... is this true??? anyway nice to meet you guys and im looking forward to meeting many of you in person!!!
Thanks again from another newbie!!
Jeff
Thought I would add what I want to build my tank up to. I want to do this by having frags and watching them grow btw... so if anyone has any spares of the following *cough*hint*cough*
pom pom pulsing xenia, GSP, all kinds of zoanthids, rics, mushrooms, basically the easy things till i get my ears wet so to speak! those are just my favs so far! As far as fish go... i would love to have a pair of true or false percs but here they are close to 30 dollars each!!! I really want a black clown but we will see what happens.
Have a good day guys!! Hope to meet some of you soon!
