I bought a frag of hammer coral from someone a while back, then bought 2 other frags of frogspawn from another member. The frogspawn i just bought looks exactly like the branching hammer coral, i cant tell the difference between any of the 3 really.

my question is - I am wanting to put all 3 together somewhere to look like a little mini colony. will they attack each other? will a frogspawn attack another frogspawn? dont want to make any mistakes....

They are "cousins"...

FrogSpawn has more of a "Dotted" tip with several tips on each "tentacle" where-as Hammer has a more elongated tip (looks like a hammer or anchor and is often called anchor coral) with only one tip per tentacle.

Here They Are Pictured Together... Frog On Left, Hammer On Right...

They are all from the Genus Euphyllia and should be able to coexist. The difference between hammer and frogspawn is in the shape of the tentacle tips. The tips of the hammer should look kind of like the head of a hammer and the tips of the frogspawn should be round.

after looking at the pics - what i have is all hammer. my 2 recent ones were sold to me as frogspawn, oh well - im gonna make a little hammer garden then..

thanks guys

I'll trade you a frag of frogspawn for one of the hammers.

In the Euphyllias there is three main ones frogspawn, hammer and torch the frogspawn and hammer can touch without problems but torch can not touch any of the three. And i had a frogspawn frag from au01st that looked like a hammer for a long time then it one day started looking more and more like a frogspawn lol.
