Has anyone ever drilled a JBJ 30 Gallon?

I have a JBJ 30 gallon - it's an all in one. The tank itself is a decently thick glass. I'm using a canister filter that came with the thing. I'm not liking it though and I do have a sump that would fit nicely in the stand. I don't want to spend upwards of $200 for the Lifereef overflow. Someone recommended an eShopps overflow as well. I'm just paranoid about a flood.

Would I be ok to remove the canister and just add a skimmer to the thing? Advice, opinions, please.

I think you can drill the JBJ's but there is a link that you can use to determine if its tempered or not.

Also the HOB overflows are good, and you can build in some fail safe methods to help.

Also wouldn't be a bad idea to call them and ask if its tempered or not, might be faster :) ,the glass tops and clips are tempered but I couldn't see if the main tank was or not.

I'm pretty sure that people have removed the "chambers" and drilled the back so that bulkheads could be inserted making it essentially a regular tank. Or you could modify it with a Coast to Coast overflow. Hopefully somebody will chime in that has done it.
