forgot to check their filter sock and it was overflowing over the back of your sump? Well, that happened to me today! Trying to get everything dry before any wood in the stand swells. Has anyone had any similiar stories?

I haven't changed mine in a week and it's overflowing right now. Can you not make it so it just overflows back INTO your sump?

I made my own sock holder, and I have one of those vacuum hoses that you can you for a drain pipe. Well, when it has water in the drain pipe it pulls the sock over to the side of the sump...it's fine until it needs to be changed! I don't think i've ever let it overflow before! I have fans blowing on it now to dry it(I have the sump sitting on top of a towel, so the towel is wet). I need to buy a commercial sock holder!!!

You're not a reefer until you've spilled a good amount of water on the floor accidentally. In fact... if you're not accidentally causing minor floods at least once or twice a year... I question your dedication to the hobby ;)

:lol2:no truer words have ever been said.

...had a flood so bad on my old 125 Gallon that it seeped through the subfloor and started pouring out of the can lights in the kitchen down stairs? yep!

Curse you Coralife Super Skimmer 220!

Oh yeah...it also warped all of the brand new hardwoods upstairs.

Oh goodness no!

You should have seen some of the floods we've had at the shop over the years. The best (worst?) one was about 200 gallons.

You know it's going to be a long day when you stop at the gas station outside the shop before running errands and you notice water pouring out the front door of the shop..

And it's true - you aren't a "real" aquarist until you've spilled (and/or swallowed!) some water!:yuk:

Ive done all of those, except bulking the floor up! My parents would kill me! The worst one I have ever had was, well it was just a stupid mistake...I blame it on my clumsiness! I used to have a 26 gallon before my 75, and I was draining it completely into a bucket(The siphon I was using took about 5 minutes to fill a 5 gallon bucket). I left the room for about 10 muntes withs the bucket 3/4 way full. Came back into my room with water EVERYWHERE, the pumps were sucking air! Ive never been lectured so long in my life! Yes, I have sucked in water...many times! But the worst one was when I was cleaning my koi pond(the water was black, you could NOT see to the bottom). I sucked in about 1 1/2 cups of water...worst taste of my life, and I definitely threw up many times that day!

The wife fiddled with the skimmer a few days back and caused it to rapidly fill up it's collection cup. I, being the good husband that I am, came to her rescue and went to empty the cup... without turning off the skimmer first...

not with my MRC Sump... (I had them customize it with an overflow that would dump back into the sump when I did something stupid)..

but I DEFINITELY DID with my previous sump/setup..

I've done that a couple of times...set up the sock wrong and it overflows over the side of the sump instead of inside. The last time I was out of town and got a call from the wife 'cause the water alarms were going off (cheap $12 insurance from Lowe's!). That was after I'd set up an IP Cam on the tank. I brought up the camera on my cell phone and quickly told her what to do (another lifesaver investment if you travel!).

Luckily my tank is in the basement on a tile floor and the builder poured a bowl in the floor. I can get an inch of water on the floor before it touches the baseboards (and I've done that a couple of times too!)

Wow... thats pretty nasty. Lol, I haven't sucked down any black water yet but just because of this post I'm going to be extra careful.

Yes! Be careful! At the time when I sucked that water down I was just using a garden hose, so I couldn't see the water's location!:yuk:
