I have a 29 gal BioCube to start, if all goes well I'll take my 110 gal tank and turn it. Anyway, I am trying to figure out how many corals is suitable for my tank. right now I have 2 Kenya tree, 2 polyps and a torch coral with 2 feather dusters.
want to make sure I don't over crowd the tank....

Thanks!

as many as you want.. as long as there not stinging each other and killing each other.. you should be fine

Your issues will come with corals that have the ability to sting their neighbors in the fight for territory, just as myss is saying. Something like a torch coral needs the right placement. I would get the more toxic corals first and place them in such a way that allow you to see what the currents in your tank will do to them. A torch will extend its tenticles and burn its neighbors so you have to figure out your safe zones. I would build maybe two live rock islands and keep a hammer/anemone/torch type coral on one island and your zoas/feather dusters on the other.
Good luck

Another issue you can run into is water quality. Softies in particular will shed a mucous which can harm other corals. In a big tank it's not as much of an issue as it is a small tank. Having a skimmer, or running carbon will help with this, as will frequent water changes.

Likewise any hard corals (LPS such as your torch) needs calcium to grow. It pulls the calcium from your water. If you get enough stony corals in the tank you will need to supplement calcium to offset what they use.

It's all a balancing act. Your best bet if you wanted to do a LOT of corals in a small tank is finding something that is easy to care for and cooperative. Like a tank full of zoanthids or mushrooms or something.

I have over 20 softies, lps and sps corals in my 29 Biocube, may be close to 30!They are all doing well except for a couple sps that dont seem to like the new LEDs.I do 25% water change every 3 weeks and supplement with calcium and trace elements.I only have 2 two fish,a pistol shrimp,a cleaner shrimp,a fighting conk, lots of red and blue legged hermits and a few small snails.I love this bad boy its so easy to take care of IDK if I will ever go back to a large tank!
