So the the coralline algae has began taking over my sump. My only concern I see coming is it growing on my heater? If this thing covers the heater will it cause it to break or will it be fine?

Soak it in vinegar every once in awhile...
matter fact clean all your equipment every once in awhile...lol

That's the only piece I have not cleaned. But now I'm starting to see it build up on it and the thought came to my mind.

Agreed.
I take all of my pumps, circulation pumps, heaters, etc... and put them in a bucket with a 50/50 vinegar/water mix. Plug in of of the circulation pumps for 30 minutes and most of the algae/Coraline are gone.

Rinse with RO/DI and you are back in business.

As for cleaning the rest of your "equipment", I'll leave that up to you to figure out.

I understand you need to clean the equipment. I'm just asking if the heater would still function with the coralline or would it cause the heater to bust due to the heat possible being trapped inside.

My 2 cents on this is that you should remove the coraline from the heater.
Heaters have enough issues with failure as it is. A clean heater is a happier heater.
Plus, heaters are designed to transfer heat to the water. Not be insulated.

Keep it clean.

I can't keep up with it in my nano. I don't dose anything, and for some reason the coraline growth is insane.

So...his question is still hanging out there.
I gave my 2cents. Does anyone else have any input regarding the coraline and the heater?

And BTW, I've seen coraline growing in a sump that was sitting in the shadows of the display tank w/o any dedicated sump lighting.

Oh yea the growth is crazy and it's a bi weekly cleaning. Only thing for lights is a 65k screw in bulb. Only runs 8hrs a night.
