Just curious how high above your tank you’re mounting your leds, mainly Radion gen 5s. I think mine are about 20” above the tank and a bit too high.

I have my blackboxes at 12" above waterline. I might lower them a few inches..

I have my Gen 2 XR15's mounted about 9-10" above the water. Once the tank goes live I may have to drop them down a bit though. BRS has a number of good videos about this.

I usually start at about 8" and pretend that I'm doing tank maintenance to make sure I've got enough clearance. If the lights get in my way at all, I'll raise them up a bit. Nothing more annoying that having to move or continually bump into a light fixture when cleaning or doing water changes. Depending on the setup, most of mine around mounted between 8" - 10".

If Ecotech recommends 8" I would start with that and adjust based on your preferences for par, spread and maintenance ability.

All Lights are different, a lot has to do with the lens over the LEDs.

When I had Noopsyches and Kessil A360Ws I had them at ~6.5-8 Inches above the water. This made maintenance or fragging a pain. I had to adjust the height of the wires independently.

The new lighting rack has A360Xs with the narrow filters and XHOs hung 12" off the water line. This allows me to get every piece of rock out of the tank without adjusting the rack.

8-10" is what I have always ran, I went a tad higher with 400w MH and VHO but that was about a hundred years ago lol. IMO 20" is way to high.

I run mine at 12 always have the lower you go the more heat in the water. And 20 is def way to high. 8 inche you have no work room at all.

I think I saw on BRS AI Prime were optimal 13 to 15” above water
