What is the best way to cure ICK? I heard that you could use garlic. Let me know. I never had a problem with it before, but I added a Regal Angel to my tank a week and a half ago and it started stressing so now i have 2 other fish infected. taking them out is probably going to be an easy option so give me the best ways you know how. I hear a lot but let me know as soon as possible. I have a 110 with 2 fish infected at the moment.
Thank you

MI is a real pain. First, make sure it is MI. second, Without doing the copper or Hypo, try feeding garlic. Kent makes Garlic Xtreme which helps with the immune system which you'll want to soak your food in it for about 15-20 minutes prior to feeding. I use this everyday just as a supplement. You can also add Metronidazole to their food but combine it with Focus. Turn your temp up but don't cook the corals. Turn lights off except during feedings (less stress) and feed heavy. Keep the fish strong and hopefully you can beat the parasite. Try doing some research as well so you understand the different stages. There is one product that is reef safe called Kich Ich but it is hit or miss really. If you try it, double your dose but there are truly no guarantees with it. If you start losing the battle (like if the fish stop eating), I would definately recommend a quarantine tank and treat Hypo or copper (not both together). Good luck.

Here's a good article on treating with copper. You just can't do it with inverts/corals. That's where the quarantine tank comes in...http://www.bestfish.com/copper.html">http://www.bestfish.com/copper.html</a>.

And here's one for garlic...[IMG]http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2005-10/sp/index.php">http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2005-10/sp/index.php</a>.

Personally, I use garlic everyday.

Is it considered a dated treatment to crank the heat up a bit? The idea being the ick will release from the host, making it easier to erradicate....

Basically the raising of the temperature is just to hurry along the lifecycle of the parasite. It is not really a treatment. What could take days for the parasite to cyle is then pushed to hours.

I've had MI tiwce with the first time easily handled after using garlic, Metro, Focus and Kick Ich. I continued garlic (to this day). The last fish I put in developed ich very bad but none of my originals which I fed garlic to regularly developed ich. I fought ich the same way as the first time but eventually had to move the one fish out to QT before it was too late. I raised temperatures both times which kept the parasites life cycling at a decent pace but it kept coming back with a vengence every night.

Copper treatment (Cupromine) started working 2-3 days after fish was introduced. I had to keep up with reg. water changes because of ammonia and use prime everyday.

Hope this helps a bit.
