Hey All,

Just figured id stop in and say hey, glad i found a group of local people :)

My name is Scott, ive had my saltwater tank setup for about a week, and have a clownfish in it at the moment. (Probably my first mistake)

I listend to much to the people at petco probably a little too much, not realizing this hobby is as big as it is, i seem to have lucked out, as speedy is doing good and helping cycle the tank.

Second mistake, test strips instead of a real test kit.... I have a bad enough time testing as im colorblind, so holding a bottle next to a strip and trying to identify the color, well, lets say it may have been just as easy with all the lights off.

Im enjoying this very much, and am catching up on the reading I SHOULD of done before buying... better late then never i suppose.

Welome Scott,
There is an ARC meeting tonight at 7 pm if you can make it.

Welcome!!

I feel you on the color blind issue.. Such a PITA at times isn't it.. Luckly mine isn't complete.. Just certain colors..

Do you have Live Rock in the tank? What kind of filtration, lighting, heater, etc. etc. etc.?

Welcome!

We might want to offer a temporary home for speedy, and get our new friend a Frozen shrimp, and a bottle of cycle.

If speedy starts to show signs of not feeling well, ill ask for someone to hold onto him, but as of now he seems to be doing good...

I told you i listend to petco too much, they told me to set up my tank, get the salinity right, and that clownfish were the best to start with,

then i came home and started reading up on everything, and realized the mistake i had made. I have a buddy who has a 100 gallon tank whol ives next door to me, who said he will be more than happy to watch speedy after he passes his quarantine tank. But he says he is amazed the fish is as healthy as it is....

in hind site, i would have used a table shrimp to cycle the tank...not speedy

Welcome to the club. You have come to the right place! A lot of nice people willing to answer questions and help out.

Get ready... this hobby is addicting!

skybird,

Can you give some more details? Complete setup etc?

Live Rock (how many pounds?)
Other filtration (skimmer, floss, etc.)
Substrate (sand how many pounds?)
Lighting (PC, T5, MH, LED?)
Heating (What type of heater)
Testing (What test kit?)
Flow (what powerheads?)

I can't believe that even Petsmart/Petco idiots would suggest cycling with a freaking clown fish. God that drives me nuts.

What do you use?? I am red/green colorblind and have never tested just due to the fact that they were so hard to read.

Thx!

I have a filter with carbon inserts, 45-70 gallon tank. Mine is a 60 gallon
Substrate: 80lbs Live Sand from Aviarium
Lighting: Cheapo lights that came with the tank setup
Heating: ehaim ( i think thats the brand)
Testing: API Saltwater Master Test Kit (Just started using)
Flow: I had a cheapo powerhead from Petco that broke... im taking it back tomorrow and replacing it with Hydor Koralia Water Circulation Pump - 400 GPH , anyones thought on that?

Mine is less severe( I suppose) once either Pink or orange get past 3' away I can tell no difference at all.. Its hard to explain to people that pink and orange look identical... Same with Blue and green..

No difference between them at all.. Its progressively
getting worse though..

I just have to get them real close to my eyes or ask my wife to tell me what they are..

Everything blends in to me, unless they are 2 or 3 steps away from each other in the spectrum
