Help. 2 Pumps or 1?

Hi folks. Setting up my 120g. It has dual overflows and returns. I was thinking maybe 2 mag 5's or 1 mag 12? Thoughts are appreciated.

P.S. Sump is an Eshopps 3

2 pumps provides a fail safe but one pump ensures even return.

Thanks. It is a trade off for sure. If I go with the Mag 12 only can I just use 1 of the returns or do I HAVE to T it off to both returns? I will have a Vortech 40 and 10 for water movement. Thanks.

Depends on what size pipe you're using, I'd think. Too small and you're going to create a lot of backpressure on the pump, which could shorten the life. The other side to that is you'll have magnificent flow coming out the front end.

As long as you use both drains there is no reason you can't use only one return as long as you are getting the turnover you want through your sump.

Use one pump, but don't use a Danner Mag. There are MANY better alternatives (run cooler, less energy, quiet, etc.)
