I need to hang my Radion onto this hand made Canopy. I have Echo Tech's Radion light hanging kit.
The top is wood is 1/4" at best. The sides are 3/4". I'm using Metal halides on the sides, the sockets are screwed into additional wood as well as the 3/4. I have "Liquid Nail" and about every other type of glue. The curve shape adds additional concern. I sure don't feel good about hanging this light to a piece of glued wood.
Anything I've come up with to attach from the sides interferes with the MH bulbs. I'm about over this "Custom Canopy" stuff, it's been a challenge.

Any and all ideas appreciated.

And the reflector adds more of an issue regarding gluing on a piece of wood...

where were you wanting to hang the radion? in the middle where the reflector is? and how does the canopy open to allow access to the tank?

When I hung my radions, I had stainless steel "L" brackets made to prevent corrosion (8x10 I think). I used a stainless steel eyebolt for my mounting point.

As far as how to mount this particular piece of steel,(or any bracket you choose) I would get a small piece of plywood and place on backside of canopy (where you can't see it). Then screw the mounting bracket through the canopy into the plywood. Radions aren't extremely heavy so that should hold it for you. Now you just need to find out where you want to place it.

Omg JDW, this should have came to me daaaa.

I've already got the additional plywood supporting the MH sockets, lol
In my tool box are 4 different size L brackets too.
Too much on my mind, it stops often :)
Thanks a BUNCH!

Radions looks more better alone jmo Deb, hanging kits are sold at hydrophonic stores and they're not expensive, you'll be happy looking at your nice looking ecotech :)

Edit: oh I see you have some extra MH to your lightning

But darlin the tank is 4' long! I've got the Echotech hanging kit but it's made to hang from the top and that's not an option with this canopy.
I believe the MH can give the coral something LED alone can't? IDK but its only costing me $175 to try them, with $140 being the Phoenix Bulbs. When the MH bulbs go bad I may reevaluate. Spending another $600 on an additional Radion isn't in the budget ATM. I moved into a new house recently and I want a screen porch, pool, new kitchen counter tops, etc.

Epoxy a bracket to the top of the canopy with Model resin. I did on a previous hood, worked well and held a T5's weight.

You can take two flat 3"x3" pieces of light gauge metal, drill some holes in it ( about 6 or 8 3/8" holes ). Put another smaller hole on one corner ( to hook the hanging kit to ).Bend up the corner that you just drilled the attachment hole to. Bend the flat metal pieces to the contour of the hood if you need to, spaced the way you want them ( about 20" apart ), these will be your attachment plates. Place each of the two pieces diagonally so that the hole you drilled for the hanging kit is in the dead center of the hood. Mark the outline of where you are placing the attachment plates. Put some resin on the bare wood under where you are going to place the plates, a fair amount, thick coating. Place the attachment plates where you outlined them, and add about 3-4 more thick coats of resin over the top and about 3-4" on each side. Once dry it should hold about 20-30 lbs each plate. No screws, no holes. I wish I had taken pics of the one that I did, but sorry.

You right Deb, I have seen the seasoned reefers here giving their opinion about different light setups.
Then no dbout your right again! House first!!!

Hope you find a solution.
