I got this at one of ARC events and did not write down the name.

I don't think so. These are black branches - the protrusions only come out at night. At the event there was a large branch and members were given a frag.

If it's a hard coral (with a skeleton) then it's probably Tubastrea - Black Sun Coral.

It does need to be manually fed, it does not use light. You can teach it to open during the daytime by moving its feeding time a bit earlier as time goes by.
