Help with 40 cube reef

My wife and I are working on a 40 cube reef...but we've never worked on a cube and therefore don't know how to build up. I tried using some hydraulic cement, but I can't seem to work fast enough before it all hardens. Any suggestions? Any volunteers that can show us what to do?

IME, I just stack the rocks, without glueing. Some use aquarium epoxy and others will drill holes through the rock and use fiberglass rods to hold the rock work together.

I drilled mine last time and it was super easy. I used fiberglass driveway markers to connect the pieces. This time I will use hydraulic cement to fill in the gaps. I've heard just use a little at a time, don't make up a large batch all at once.

The ones that have the red reflective plastic on the top? I was afraid it would snap while using it, with my luck being what it is.

I could only find orange ones so the tape was white but that's them. They're pretty sturdy, that's all I have supporting a rock that weighs about 4-6lbs on top of a pillar.

I'm going to try my hand at drilling the rock and using rods. If it doesn't work out, who would be interested in some food and aquascaping this weekend?

After taking everything out, and building a mock frame to use and work within, this is where we are. The shelf on the ground will be the top piece once it's finished. We just had to walk away for a while, sleep off our tired frustration, and start over with some good advice from all of you.

As soon as it cycles, we are transferring the corals and fish from the 29, then making the 29 a FOWLR
