The picture in this case does not speak a thousand words... :(

What kind of anemone is he? What do you feed him? Where is he positioned in your tank? What color is he normally?

use a fork and jab him untill his tentacles come out.......jk leave it alone for a few weeks and see what happens. Anemones will heal theirselves. If he is not happy he will move just keep the power heads away

It looks like he's in real bad shape... A white BTA is one that has lost its zooanthallae. You can nurse a bleached BTA back to health if they'll take food... with sufficient lighting they often regain their color rather quickly. Since you've had him for several months and he never regained his color... and since he's no longer eating it's likely just a matter of time before it dies. Sorry there's nothing you can probably do at this time... If he does open up and takes food again, I would suggest somehow trying to increase the amount of light he receives, perhaps by moving the rock he's attached to.

I have a green bta , that is a pretty good size i am willing to trade for some frags.......i think "future" is right ......................R.I.P :(

Ya your PC lights are not enough to support a BTA that deep in a tank. You MIGHT be able to save him. Your best bet is to remove him from where he is at, get a "basket" of some sort that you can put at the top of your tank right under the lights and see if he starts to respond. But with your current set up, and his current shape, it is a matter of time. The basket also make him easy to pull when/if he does die so he does not nuke your tank.

How much longer would u lit him go before u pulled him? I moved him and his rock to the very tip top of the tank were is about 6in's from the lights...
I dont want him to pop and kill everything else n the tank :(

Honestly, in this case, given what we've learned so far... his chances of survival imo is very very low. :( It's unlikely that such a small anemone will nuke your tank. If you want to take precautions, go ahead and put a bag of activated carbon in your sump just in case.

Ya I would be running carbon right now...

As far as how long to let him go. Since he is to the top of the tank you can rais him a little out of the water and give him a good smell. If he is dead, you will know it...

If he detaches from his rock, I would pull him...

Do not try to feed him anymore, just let him be and see if he rebounds... He might not but there is nothing more you can really do. PC lights and anemones do not match well. You really need something stronger in the way of light for him. If you are going with a PC light it better be in the 5100-6500K range to get enough par to even get to the BTA. Which is a good point, you could try to go to home depot and try to get a clip on shop light ($10) and a PC flood light that is "daylight" (6500K) ($3) and see if you can put it over him but I would wait to see if you see any change in him by moving him up!

I only say that because he looks pretty far gone... you are right though, you might want to reattach him if he will within a few minutes... I should have been more clear.

Thx guys I appreciate all the info...what worrys me is the light setup....this is are 1st Salt water tank...and are store told us it be enough light except for some coarls and clams...we buy everything from them....Ill prob go talk to them
Thx Michael

If you have a quarantine tank that can provide your BTA with lots of light, please move it there. Once there, add either Coral Frenzy or Golden Pearls to the water. BTAs can absorb food through their tissue as well as through their mouths.

Unfortunately when you bought a white anemone, you purchased a BTA that had lost its zoozenthale. This is true of all anemones, including even seabaes. Lost zooanthallae nearly always spells disaster for an anemone.

If you're successful, it will take months for the zooanthallae to reinhabit your anemone.

Give it as much food and nutrients as you can while trying not to stress out the animal any more than you must. Also you should try to raise your nitrates a bit in order to help the zooanthallae to grow.

I wish you lots of luck,

Bob

Well, one thing I noticed is the clown fish are still hosted by the anemone, in every case I've seen of a dying anemone, clowns evacuate and show no interest in the anemone. The fact that your clowns are still interested in it is very hopful, If that is actually a bubble tip, it really needs an overhang. BTAs like to hang upside down, peeking only parts of the body out at times to catch light. Light, Water Quality, Food and Substrate (or in the BTAs case, proper habitat) is what you need to look at, in that order. Wet Skim!!!! Run Carbon, A spotlight might help, but dont shock it, only run a spotlight if you are willing to build an overhang! Test your Water! Offer it a SMALL piece of scallop (like under a quarter inch cube), less important if it eats than it is that he can just hold on to it, and build the animal the proper habitat. I wouldn't count it out quite yet, but nows the time to act!

Funny u mention the overhang...since this mourning when I left for work he went from just laying in a ball on the rocks to crawling up under and hanging from under it, but he still dont look happy....

If its still trying to adapt, then theres good hope, dont do away with him yet by any means. Best of luck
