Hi guys,

I'm new to ARC and looking for some advice on how to frag my Bounce Mushrooms. I have had them for about year and have tripled in size and have not split. I am looking for the safest way to do it without cutting them with a knife. 20190410_171013.jpg20190410_171037.jpg20190410_172932.jpg

Use bone cutters to cut the disc (they cut easily and split straight usually) once you split the disc under the foot with cutters use a new razor blade or scalpel cut the 2 halfs , depending on the size it can be split up like this 2 or 3 times usually but the smaller pieces tend to come loose easier.
I would invest in a mushroom box I lost a baby OG bounce 3 weeks ago because I wasn't using my mushroom box

Another easy way is to take the shroom and pull it out of the water let it close up , then glue a piece of a frag plug directly next to the foot .( I usually choose wherever it is closest to the edge of the plate)
If its touching the foot or close it will attach itself to the surface of whatever you glued down eventually.
I wait a month or 2 and when it attaches i slice it off (usually 1/4 or 1/3 of the mushroom)and pop it off the plate.
Mushrooms are pretty tough so it's hard to mess it up they are very resilient usually the worst thing that happens is they come loose and float away that's why I suggest the mushroom box. Good luck

Thanks! Great advice, now i need to be brave enough to cut them.

These guys are on 3" discs. One can completely fill it and go over the disc. The other one fills up ~2 to 2.5 inches of the disc.

Would you suggest just making a single cut?

the safest way is to do a single cut. however, some brave souls have attempted quarter cuts.
Do you know if they grow with the same amount of bubbles? I would hate to frag them and then get mushrooms with hardly any bounces.

there’s no guarantee on the number of vesicles/bubbles that you will get for the new frag. However, if the past experiment by other reefers is any indication, you should have some vesicles with the new frag.

I would also add that if the frag doesn’t have any vesicles, it really lose some of its value.

Thanks so much for all the tips everyone!
I will definitely update once (1) they split on their own, or (2) I bite the bullet and take a knife to my very bouncey "mortgage payments". Lol

Ok all, I got some great advice from everyone....and....I've decided to take a knife to the big guy!

If you can see in the pictures, he has completely covered the 3 inch disc (bottom one). I have some new blades on the way and will be making my own mushroom box.

I will update this post with some pictures after the deed is done (hopefully by this weekend).

Any suggestions of how to make the cut? I was thinking down the middle, where it has the least number of bounces, trying to keep about equal amount of bounces on either side? There are a few really big bounces on either side, so at least the halves will have some big ones to start out??

Thanks in advance!

Just a quick update, the big OG bounce was fragged!

So far, so good, they seem to be healing nicely. The first 2 days though, I felt like kicking myself, thinking "why, why, what did you do!?". I couldn't stop staring at the poor shriveled pieces of what were once a so happy and bouncey guy.

I will post a picture once they start forming up a bit more.
