Ok so I got 2 juvenile black saddle clowns. One didn't even make it home. So I picked up the replacement today and the one I already had in the tank keeps turning on his side and locking lips with the new one. I think it's getting mad at the new guy.... but I don't want him to die... I'm scarex. Is this normal with clowns or do I need to get the new out!!! Please help. I have a 20 gallon qt. Next to my display. If I take the old one and put him in there and let him cool down will that work??? Or put them both in there like time out??? I'm so lost and don't want to lose this new one. I want them to get along. Help me!!!

As long as they are both healthy they should be fine. It's normal for clowns to fight. They are trying to figure out who is dominate. The strongest one will become the female. If it gets really bad you can separate them but only if one is in danger of dieing. Clowns have all kinds of weird behavior. They will twitch, fight, stay upside down, all kinds of crazy stuff.

I pulled the aggressive one out. The new one was acting really sick and stressed from the move so I got the aggressive one in qt until the new guy gets healthy enough to add him back. Once healthy they cam Duke it out all they want. But I don't wanna lose anyone atm. Lol

try an acclimation box in the tank. It will allow them to see each other and interact without it becoming violent. You can use a little critter carrier and drill holes in it.

Wait, so you have a QT BUT the fish you just got home went into the DT instead of the QT?!? Now the fish that was in your DT is now in your QT?!? Something is not right about that..

+1...:shout:

I just set up the qt tank when this issue arose. It wasn't previously set up. After I posted this on here I set it up.

Ya not to start anything.. Just found it kind of odd! Not only that, something to think about is your QT tank should be (in most cases) water from your DT. (same witha hospital too) That way you did not have to shock and maybe put your fish from the DT when you placed him in the QT since most people do not think to acclimate to the QT.

I ran water directly from my DT to the qt. It was empty and I ran the water and placed the bully fish into the qt while it was still fresh from the dt. That way he wouldn't go into shock. Lol I knew enough to do it that way. Lol I learned that many years ago with my freshwater tanks. Lol shocking a fish is horrible. It's already bad enough he had to be caught but to just throw him into a completely different environment with the different perameters without acclimation would be horrible. Lol
