I am looking to go led and need some opinions from the guys that are using them now. The light will go over a 60 cube (24x24x24). Want to know the pros and coins of what you have used or come across and see if there is one that would better suite my needs. This tank will be a mixed reef but mostly sps and zoas. Looking at the Vega but want to get everybody else's opinions first.

I use the Ecotech Radion, it's pricey, but spec'd to cover 24x24, and extremely programmable. I cringed buying mine, but it makes everything from light aclimation to growing corals to just impressing your friends with a disco show for the fish!

i would look into these, theyll blow the AI out of the water

Check out reefbreeders.com 16 inch led light had one over my 60 cube awesome light

Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk 4 Beta

Pros: low heat, low energy, good shimmer(may be a con for you), cheaper in long run(assuming you keep for multiple years), slim modern design for most mass produced units
Cons: upfront cost, growth may not be as good as say T5 or MH(widely debated topic, Ill say I have good growth on my LPS, zoas, birdsnest. No noticable growth on my acro but I only have one small piece so I wouldn't consider it to be defintive.)

I've heard good things about the AI, Radions, razors, taotronics as well if you want a cheaper alternative

Was also looking at the Tesla but I saw that it was not a full spectrum unit. How important is it to have the red, green and UV I'm the fixture?

I'll try to make this short without all the scientific terms, your coral is composed of algeas that react with diffent spectums to reflect the diffent colors you see so with proper par and spectums that lights produce you'll get the great colors you're looking for

That's what I was thinking but so much info out there that goes both ways just want to get it right the first time.

TL;DR What Reeferman said :)

i have a Diy led from rapid led and would highly recommend something like mine for your system. What i built was a 2 6x10 heat sinks bolted to gather to make a 10x12 then i put 15 xp-g r5 cool whites and 15 xt-e royal blues 4 xp-e blues 4 ocean whites and 2 ultra violates. it cost me about $450 to build but i think it is worth every dollar. I do control it with my apex and it has never been over 60% but i have grate growth and color in my opinion

I gotta put in my plug for reefbreeders...

I only have the value fixture, and love them...

My clam, anenome, and few corals respond well to them too...

I have been looking at the reef breeders and kind of like what I am seeing. I am looking at the A4 I think that's what its called. Just want to make sure its a good unit.

Been happy with reefbreeders. I have a photon and one of the values that I've been happy with. With so many good led's coming out lately, you've got tons of options.

I know to many options. I don't mind spending the money for quality but the light needs to be worth it. Does anybody that has a fixture that has the red and green in them feel that they are useless or does it add something nice to the color of the corals?

HONESTLY for a 24" cube, Id just get a 250w HQI Hamilton Pendant and grow whatever ya want :)

A programmable set of LEDs allows you to adjust your colors to make your corals pop how you want... This is cool :)
