Currently lit by two 6500k 100W CFL Floodlights mont ed in drafting-style clamp-on desk lamps.

Home to a small ball of cheato and 40 mangroves.

I've been thinking about mangroves but I heard they really don't benefit the user that much. Chaeto is more effective is what I heard. Any information about mangroves would be apperciated.

Yes and no. The main reason I went on with mangroves is I like the way they look in an external setup. It will also have varieties of other algaes in it, some for nutrient export, others as attempts at producing renewable tang food.

Check out this tread on mangroves:

Is it better to place mangroves in the sand or float them in styrofoam?

if the roots arent long enough as well as the stems, it's better to float them till they grow down to the sand bed. If they are large, might as well get them in the sand. Curious to know why you didn't put more sand either? At any rate, it looks awesome!

I just havent gotten any more sand yet. I am going to about double the current amount. I got the mangroves from ebay.
