Hi All.. Its that time of year....

For new bulbs.. I have a canopy fixture now since I was last here. The tank is still moving along great and my older sis's tank in Savannah is going good too.

But I am in need of bulbs. I can see it in my corals and my rose nem... which is now pink and I am afraid not doing well because of my lack of funds. but I have a full time job at an Elementary school fixing computers and what not soooo I need som good suggestions for bulbs... here is what I am looking to do..

I want it to be kind of blueish though I would mind some white or purple in it. I really would like to see my nem come back out and be pretty again and some of my corals are lacking as well.

I'll also be buying new reflectors as I think this aren't the best though, I can't be sure since the whole thing was given to me so I just thought I would upgrade a bit.

So to recap... I need bulbs, looking for blueish mostly.. but wouldn't mind experimenting with a little purple. and I dont mind a little white but not washed out... I want my nem to be purty again and my corals happy.

What I decide and we decide will be used on two tank (my sister's and I)

I do. krill. once a week. should I try anything else or more often?

Any way its late and I'm about to go to bed. What I wanted to tell you was as nems loose their color they loose their ability to absorb energy from light. In order to get the nem back in shape your gonna have to feed it a little more than you would if it was colored up normally. When you get the new bulbs it may hide in the day and open up at night. Kinda reversing its normal routine. So don't get freaked out if it starts acting backwards. As his color comes back so will its routine. Just feed it a little more than you normally do and it will come back fine. Wish I could help you with the color combo on your lights. there is a guy on RC called grimreefer who is really good and has some threads with diff combos for you to see. I'm think of going up to two times a week and hoping that helps. And then I got to decide on lights and then get a Tunze Osmolator and I will be content once again with my little slice of heaven... i mean ocean

yeah maybe even 3 times a week just to boost it back up. It was explained to me by jenn a year ago or so because I had a really bleached one that would stay closed during the day and then open up at night reaching towards the top. She explained it needed meaty food like the krill, and silversides etc. I've had good luck following her advice. She also explained the whole reason I told you above of why it acts backwards.

Ok, I'll double the does of krill.. the silversides I always get seem to not sit well with the nems and they die or move.

the clowns are still hosting it so that is good.

Cory, what kind of bulbs is it you need? T5, MH, CFs? Also what size fixture is it?

I have some ATI bulbs you can have, not sure how many but at least 5-6. They have about 8 months on them but you could play with the color combos to get what you want before you buy. I have Aqua Blue Special, Purple Plus, and Blue Plus I believe, Id have to go in the garage and check.
