Name is david, and i just started my Marine Tank about 2-3 weeks ago. I've had freshwater tanks for 3-4 years, but now that i have some extra income, wanted to gice saltwater a try. I started off with a 55 Gallon a few weeks ago, and now also have a 30 gallon (fish only) tank. So far i've only lost a cleaner shrimp, so i guess everything is going well. Only have one inverterate so far, but will add more as tank matures. Hoping to add soft corals in a few months.

Here some pics of my two tanks, 55 Gallon main, 30 gallon breeder/hospital

Thanks to Blue Planet in McDonough for all the help getting started

Yeah i'm not adding any more for at least a month of so. I test the water every day for ammoina/nitrate/nitrite, Did a few water changes already. I acutally got the coral beauty from a friend who was moving and didn't have anyone to give it to.

I dont have a sump yet, a firend of mine built my tank stand out of soild steel, but he's coming back to mod it so i can hang one below it, hopefully it will be done by next week. I'm trying to DIY my sump, but having a hard time finding tanks not made of tempered glass.

I am most likely going for fish and softies, SPS maybe years or so after its established, but dunno yet. 55 Gallon has a skilter (skimper/filter) combo, it worked ok, but i will be moving it to the 30 gallon next paycheck (will be buying a more powerful skimmer, recomendations welcome). Both tanks have trickle filters, and powerheads. The 55 also has undergravel. The 30 gallon has fiji live rock, the 55 has i believe cured south pacific live rock.

Thanks for all the help, pls feel free to help me out, i'm a noob as you can tell, so if you see any glaring mistakes, please let me know

Welcome

Glad to see someone else close by. Tank is looking good. Once you master the taking it slow thing you will be fine.

The cleaner shrimp death was probably due to acclimation. They are very sensitive to salinity differences and need to be dripped slowly for a few hours. Also, TAKE IT SLOW! This is not a hobby to be rushed so I would wait on getting many more fish for a few weeks, especially with the addition of an anemone so early. Best of luck!

yeah i set-up the drip, but he didnt make it. I was told that might happen, so it wasnt really a surpise. But yes, i'm not going to add anything for a while. I added bio-spria and turbostart to give it a good jump, but i'm not going to overload it, it sure doesnt work 'overnight' as it says, but it does speed it up

55 Gallon has a t5 54W 10KK daylight buld and 460nm aetinic (i think, i'm sure i'm not giving all the info, LFS said this was best light they had for my size)
30 gallon has 50/50 65 watt bulb

Sweet Z roadster. We gotta meet up sometime. I have one in silverstone :).

I'll hook you up with a bunch of free coral frags. It's the least I can do for a fellow Z owner.

Welcome, looking good so far.

You might want to really reconsider the undergravel filter on a SW tank. Not a good idea on reef tanks.

its the biggest Z site on the web, over 200,000 memebers world wide.

I know UG dont work well with rocks blocking flow, but do they hard inverts? just wondering
