i just put water a couple days ago in my new solana. my sg is on par, i borrowed a refractometer just to double check since i think the POS i bought is broken.

1.025

my calc levels were above 500 when i did my first test. haven't tested alk, but i'm going to guess that it's extremely high. i ran out of the test kit. pH is low, in between 7.8-8.0 after lights on for....4 hours.

any ideas why???

If the calcium is high (Which 500 isn that high, Mine hovers around 560 all the time) then more than likely the Alk will be low.. Not high. Except in Rob's battery tank.

oh yeah. my bad, i read an article wrong. :(

it was just weird to me since the instructions said 430-490 was a good level, and i could never keep my calc above 460 in my other tank, regardless of how often i doses calc.

I'm in the same boat, my Ca levels are up around 520 and seem to stay there despite water changes. My alk seems stable at 3.2 (Salifert) and I worry about dosing to bring it up. If I do try and raise alk will I risk a precipitation event? I'd like it to be higher but don't want to screw anything up chasing higher alk that seems stable at this point. Ph is stable at 8.2 (Salifert) and I've brought my Mg up to 1320 but worry about doing much more. Should I just let it be for now?
