Hi guys I been having a battle with nitrates for 2 months when I test my water two month ago it was above 120 and I did water change ones a weak for one month and last month every two weeks and they won't go below 60 so my question is what us can I do please help thanks.

125 gallon tank
Fish and coral
Reef octopus 150
200 pound of live rock
Unicorn tang
Blonde nask tang
Yellow tang
Tominic tang
Yellow wrasse
2 percula clouns
Six line wrasse
And a lion fish

looks like you have a lot of Cows ( tangs) , in that tank. you might have to high a bioload...

What brand test kit are you using? First I would try a new kit. I had an issue showing the same results. I got a new kit and what was showing high was actually not high. A longterm fix could be adding a bio pellet reactor or GFO and Carbon reactor. They will lower them slowly but eventually could totally disolve the Nitrates.

Just my 2 cents

If they are small I would disagree but if they are full grown or getting close I would totally agree. That Naso needs a bigger tank IMHO.

I'm using api text

Edit: The naso is about 4 inch, unicorn 5 inch those arw the biggest

First, get a good test kit like Elos or Salifert or tropic Marin for trates....

Next, Just do some massive water changes over the next two weeks and develop a plan to help reduce trates such as carbon dosing, Seachem matrix, etc.....Rox carbon, wet skimming, etc

You need a symptomatic plan for removing both nitrates and phates....

I use dosing Vodka (carbon dosing 8 or so years?), weekly changes in Rox 0.8 carbon and HC GFO, added Seachem Matrix Rock in a reactor....

Large weekly or biweekly water changes at 40% or better.....

Stop over feeding and putting anything in excerpt calcium, mag, and alk....

There are many ways to get there, but this one works...

Tha is the first tink I'm going to do tomorrow do a water change of 50 gallon s and purchase a new test kit what do you guys think about hang on refugium.

BRS has a VERY EASY and inexpensive dual reactor. I have one i used for a while. I currently am not running it. Trying to find space to run it. I would be willing to lend it to you to try. Needs to be cleaned and new media. I think I have some GFO, but not sure.

Edit: What filtration do you currently have?? No room under for a fuge?

I have a fosban reactor whit bio pellets its been running for 6 week's

I agree with everyone else.

You can also get a larger skimmer and get rid of some fish if you have the options. I know those ideas might not be possible but I thought I would add it to the discussion.

Why is this in trading and selling btw?

What other filtration? Wet Dry? No fuge? I would STRONGLY recomend adding a fuge of some type...

I have a 40 gallon sump whit two filter socs a sponge and my skimmer octopus 150

I have a 10 gallon tank you can have. You could easily add it under the tank and use a Maxijet or any pump to return the water back to the 40 gallon. How offten do you change the sponge and socks? I have heard horror stories of socks being Nitrate factories...

keep doing water changes they will go down, feed once every 3 days, and clean all your mechanical filtration every other day maybe.... just some thoughts.
just needs a little more husbandry...

Husbandry?? These *****es are real HIGH MAINTENANCE......
