I have been looking at getting a small hippo tang for my tank.
I seem to remember in the past that small ones do not seem to fair well.
Would I be better off getting something else?

Big one's don't always do good either here's one I'm trying to get better now.

IMO tangs are pretty susceptible to diseases (especially crptocaryon, ich and lateral line). Whenever I have used QT and dosed them with a preventative (prophylactic) round of parasite, anti-biotic and anti-fungal med's before introduction, they always fare much better. This generally applies to all fish as well, IMO. Just need to be careful with certain fish and certain types of med's. Some are sensitive to such.

I bought one 1 1/2" about 6 years ago.He grew to about 4 1/2" but didn't survive the move. I bought another 4 1/2 so my daughter wouldn't know and she's doing well. I've never had any trouble keeping them except for the occasional battle with ich. I don't treat it, just feed well and she usually does fine. I keep a QT running 24/7 as a "just in case" 'cause you never know.
