I stumbled across a thread about a recipe by Eric Borneman for home-made food, and its fascinating. I'd love to get started with something like this.

Do any of you make your own food? How do you do it, if so?

Just made some 2 weeks ago, and made WAAAAY to much. Like 4 gallons of it!

Basically just went to the asian market and got random fish fillets, scallops, octopus, shrimp and so on as cheap as possible. got about 10 lbs total, along with some fish eggs and a big pack of nori, then got a bunch of frozen brine, mysis, bloodworms, large mysis, krill, cyclopeeze and random coral foods.

Blend up the fish and stuff to a decent size, then take about 1/5 of it and blend the hell out of it(fine coral food) defrost the frozen stuff, mix it all and put 6 cups in a gallon zip lock and refreeze.

Stuff is magical, if a fish doesnt eat in my tank there is simple no hope.

wow. o.o

impressive. i bought some of the frozen stuff at Pure Reef, but before it runs out i'm definitely going to try doing -that-.

i may do that too thats ive always wanted to make my own fish food

Ive been using this for a half of year with no problem.

1 bag frozen bag of frozen seafood mix at publix. I thaw it out throw it in a blender with a little of minced garlic juice and some water it last for ever and only cost $5 for the bag. it fills up 4- quart size freezer bags. I make mine a little thin so its easy to break after freezing.
