Last year on Jan 28/11, I was given a Sailfin Tang in horrific condition, suffering from HLLE.

This thread isn't meant to discuss whys and wherefores, it's simply to illustrate his ongoing comeback. He's not 100% yet, he might never be, but he's surprised us all with how well he's done to date.

I took the "now" picture on 1/28/12, exactly one year after his arrival.

Thanks :) When I took that first picture I wasn't sure he'd survive the night. Poor dude was rather freaked out for a while. Now he runs the coral tank like a boss!

Nice job Jenn! If it weren't for you caring for this fish, he probably would not have survived. His tail seems to be back almost 100%

Yep, tail is back even his dorsal is back, and it was severely eroded and split about halfway across, down to the spine. It healed a bit crooked, but still better than I'd expected.

The biggest lingering issue is a small amount of pitting on his face, and the skin on the body above the lateral line is still pretty thin in spots, but it's slowly improving.

It's unfortunate that he got this bad before action was taken :( I'm just glad he's better. Prior keeper had him for 2 years. I don't know when it started, but he looked like he'd been through a meat grinder when he was brought in.

WoW! Im not familiar with HLLE but the pics alone look like a total transformation... Great job caring for him!

Wow it doesn't even look like the same fish. Kind of surprised he survived after seeing that first pic.

We were surprised he lived too. Even more so that he's recovered to this extent. As many of you know, I have an assortment of disfigured yellow tangs that came from varying keepers, but all had HLLE and most are still ugly ducklings and will remain so for the rest of their days.
