So, im having to live in a hotel for maybe a month, hopefully not more. So, my clownfish are in a 2.5 gal tank. Its the only way i could bring them with me since i dont have another small tank. There is sand, and live rock, Cuc, and filter, and heater. Filter has purigen in it. What can i do to make sure they can survive a month in these conditions? Please dont be mean or judgemental, I will give them away if i see no other way... They are still pretty small. 2"-3" each. Please advice only. And if you have a small cube for sale let me know that would be better for them. But i cant afford much... :(

Mine still live in an 8g, been trying to give away the saddleback in the 29 so that I could move them into a bigger home, but the truth is they are fine, and my 8g is completely stable.

Point being, maybe a 5 gallon tank from Walmart or petsmart or wherever will be fine. But chances are I'll be able to meet you in Duluth today with something if the timing is right.

Just remember, you can put the tank in storage and get more fish later, if you need to. LFS will take them.

I'll be in touch when I get off work

How about housing them in a large Rubbermaid container. You won't get to enjoy looking at them as much but they will be more comfy :)

what about lighting? will ambient room light be enough?

Hi Salty, I do have a small cube I was going to put up for sale in the next few days. Its a 6g NanoCube, has a tunze protein skimmer, Par 30 light and will be available fully stocked at a very reasonable price. It’s been up running for 8-10 months, has some zoas and palys with a good clean up crew, fully capable of supporting the clowns. PM for more info or call if you still have my number.

Fish only need light to see their food. The only reason we use high power lighting is for corals to feed off the light. People that keep fish only tanks don't use the same type of lighting we do.

+1 I housed live rock and fish for a few days when my tank started leaking

i was thinking about that

A 10g from walmart should be around 12$ I think. It would offer a lot more room.

as far as lighting goes, I wouldn't worry about it if it is only fish (as long as they aren't in the DARK all day).

Yikes, that's a little cramped! Not a value judgement - real live deals curveballs all the time.

Upsize to a 5 or 10 gallon if you can, otherwise frequent 25% water changes combined with light feeding should keep them in OK shape for the month. Biggest problem in that small a tank will be ammonia buildup & salinity swings. Keep a lid on it (or any small temporary tank) to prevent carpet surfing... they'll be more prone to doing so in those digs.

I have a 12 gallon biocube. If you want to use it until you move, I will be willing to let you. Or I can house the clowns in one of my tanks. I have room for them. I have a 30 gallon refugium with live rock, chateo, and even a long tenticle anemone in there. Either way I will be happy to help. Are you still in Stockbridge? I live there, but work North East ATL. Tucker to be exact, so I am around all of town.

Edit: And I can fill some containers of salt water to fill. I may even have a new bag of live sand. I know I have a heater as well. LMK....

Hey salty , sorry your finding yourself in this position rite now . I would offer to keep them for you but I'm trying to give fish away rite now , if it was me I would put them in a bin , I kept fw fish alive for a few months in one on my back porch , but if your wanting to see them check goodwill you might find a 10g cheap , that could sit on the table of the motel room.
Good luck , hope it turns around quickly for you.

Do this!

That buys you some time until I can get you the other 14g biocube
