Well, my Red Sea Max is set up and I bought some live rock yesterday from The Fish Store & More. I paid $6.50 a pound for it which I imagine is a bit on the expensive side. Anyway, they said that the rock had been in their holding tank for a couple of weeks. I am attaching some photos. How far along in the curing process does this rock look to you?

Thanks. Can you even see the pics? I uploaded them but don't see them on the thread.

cant see pics. You could always do the smell test. If it smells funky, its prolly not fully cured yet. If there is barely any smell, chances are that its good to go. Does it have any coraline algea on it? Or is it completely bare? If there si coraline, its prolly on its way to be cured or is cured.

The rock only has a mild odor and it does have a bit of corraline algae from what I can tell.

interesting looking rock. Do as dawg said and test for ammonia. If there is none there, you should be good.

Looks pretty good, but I wouldn't think it is "cured" yet--water tests would tell the truth, though--if it were me, I still wouldn't put anything in there MINIMUM 2 weeks-I know you're anxious to, though, but that is the thing with this hobby-patience!

I used Red Sea NitroBac in the tank. That might be like Stability. In any case, they told me that the rock wasn't fully cured, so I know I'll need to wait until the Ammonia is at zero.

By the way, the two photos of my tank and rock are here:

Looks okay, if the green is hair algae you may want to scrub that with a brush. That stuff can spread pretty quick. unless of course you like it. But as they have said wait a couple weeks and do a test.

Thanks. I think that's a good plan. The rock is probably about 50% cured which would mean a couple of more weeks.
