so yesterday i picked up my first 2 fish for my new nano tank...alan at atlanta reef threw in a frogspawn for free...it is attached to a mushroom shaped piece of plastic or rock that i currently have stuck in the sand

how do i get it off of this piece and stuck to a live rock?...any sugesstions?...or does it have to stay on the piece of rock its on now?

How many heads does it have and how long is the calcium stem? The stem is not live tissue and can be cut so if it is long enough just cut it at the rock/plastic and then put it whereever you want it. If that doesn't help, post a picture and we can help more.

my wife took the camera today but ill post a picture when she gets back...it looks like this is a small frag..i can see where it was probably cut on the side from a larger piece...i guess by calcium stem u mean the non-tenticle part thats attached to the rock thingy...that part is about an inch long..pretty small...the "tenticles" dont go all the way down?...i can just cut it off the rock and epoxy it to the live rock?

thanks

You can cut it of and use epoxy, or superglue gel to attach it where you want.

if i do cut it and epoxy it do they eventually make an attachment themselves...do i need to use just a little epoxy so they have more room to make a natural attachment around the epoxy? or will the epoxy always be the means by which they r attached?

The part you epoxy or glue will never attach on its own since it is not live tissue and even the live tissue will not attach to rocks. I usually try to find a hole where I want it to be and jam/wedge the stem into it so other critters can't pull it out.

Like Bud said, if you can jam it in a hole, then you don't have to glue it and can move it later if you need to.

Without a picture i can't tell, but it may be better to leave it attached to the rock it is on. If you cut it , it may split up the stem and kill it. So be careful.
I've heard the best thing is the supergluegel-epoxy-supergluegel sandwich for attaching coral. I haven't tried it yet but it sounds good. Best of luck.

Sounds like it is attached (by glue or epoxy) to a frag plug (I think that's the "mushroom shaped piece of plastic or rock" you're describing). You might not want to risk cutting it from the plug, possibly damaging the tissue if you're not sure what you're doing. As suggested, you could jam the "stem" of the "mushroom" into a crevice or hole in the rock. If you dont have a crevice or hole where you want the piece to go, you can take a strong set of nippers and remove the stem of the plug, giving you a nice (almost) flat surface to attach to the rock. Either way, I would use glue or epoxy (I use the latter) to secure the frag in place. In the short term, that will keep it from being knocked over by some careless critter. In the longer term (says one who has been there and seen that...) something like fragspawn can get MUCH bigger and heavier and fall off all on its own.

did you happen to pick up a six line and a clown from him that day?
