How do you keep your pistol shrimp in the front of the tank so you can see him?

I know this is a loaded question but other manually moving and keeping him in a shrimp jail… LOL

I dug a small starter hole and placed in the tank and held a cup over him for a couple of seconds then he started digging out the hole more and he was there for 2 days. I have a pink spotted watchman that I can never get to come out of the back of the tank and was hoping he would move…. Well he moved but it was the pistol shrimp, he moved to the back with the watchman… urgggh

Mine had tunnels all throughout the display.. and had one very nice tunnel that came out to the front, and had his little clam shell he used as a door at night... I got super lucky with being able to see mine... he was super shy for almost a year, and then finally ignored us as we walked by...

+1 mine took a long time too before he would ignore me

Probably easier to knock out the wall and build a sitting area on the other side of the tank to observe him.

a mirror would be cheaper

It's been a year but my pistol is finally showing himself more. YWG is coming out more as well. They dig holes all over the place though. Never know what rock they'll pop out from underneath.

I threw in some rubble, like dime size pieces, in a small pile in front of a rock. They will use this to build a cave. Whenever I do this my pistol goes nuts and builds a fat cave right near where the pile was. If you ever rearrange your rocks you will find all types of stuff on the bottom under the rocks, they are hoarders. Mine takes everything loose that he can carry and pulls it under the rocks for cave structure.
