I was talking to my dad today (atcaw94) and we were both gripping wondering how everyones tanks that we go and see seem to be some much nicer then ours?!? Am i missing something here???? Clean water, good perams, fresh bulbs..... what are we not thinking of???????

It's called the EZ blade, for glass atleast. Most under rated aquarium tool out there.

Do you use rodi water? That was a huge deal for me. That and I clean the tank daily.

I picked up a new scraper today, worked great. How do you all keep the green algae out of the sand? Not on top, but the front? I try to scrape it without disturbing the sand bed, but it still looks like ***.

I have a really good filtration system, they work for cookies! :yay: This is an old pic, but I had to share it. The tank had only been set up for a few months.

Edit: Sorry pic didn't load

Been wondering this myself. I try to clean it every day but every third day at the least I clean the glass. I need to get better at rinsing/changing filter floss. That should be every other day or so as well from what I can tell. I'm loving it though! Probably still a honeymoon phase!

I know you just saw mine last week, but I wouldn't consider it clean. I do a 15 gallon water change every 2 weeks, wash my filter socks once a week and clean the glass everyday or every other day. Also having a good skimmer with a low bio-load has helped a lot.

When I started running GFO and Carbon I got a pretty big drop in algae on my glass. Also when I started feeding less helped too.

maddog - your tank was pretty immaculate!!!

I only run my halides for six hours a day because i thought maybe that could be the issue. I also only have five small fish in a 72g tank. Maybe im over feeding because my skimmer still pulls some pretty nasty stuff out of the tank. Im also thinking of running carbon to see how that helps.

Thanks! I failed to mention that I run carbon and phosphate remover in a reactor. This has helped tremendously with keeping algae in check.

well if you have algae its because of nutrients in the water. get your water to pristine conditions and the algae will die off.

+1
Water movement too. My glass stays so much cleaner since I played around with my powerheads flow direction. I put both on the opposite side of my overflow, one at the surface and one mid-way across the front glass.

Yeah, your tank is crystal clear. I'm moving my PH like we talked about. Haven't had any algae since I haven't had lights. Just bought lights last night, so it's time to attempt to be algae free.
