I just finished building a 48 inch strip with 72 LEDs. I'm mounting it over my 110 reef that I am building. What would be a good height above the water for the LEDs. 2:1 blue white ratio Cree

Also, I have lenses for the lights. Is it worth adding them?

Thanks guys,

Michael

I have a my Maxspext G2 160W sitting 2-3" above my water - i think this may be too low though.

I also have optics on the fixture.

From everything I've seen they recommend 12" above the water. You should get better par readings with the lenses, less spotlighting as well. Here's a test done with some optics on R2R...

Do you have a par meter? I would be interested in what you are getting... I'm seriously considering a custom led build similar to yours. 24" headsink with 60 led's per each, same ratio except I'm looking at 12 Cree XP-G's for a high noon.
