Hey guys and gals, I'm bleaching most of my rocks and have a plan to get rid of the dreaded maidens hair algae. How long do you guys bleach your rocks. The first couple of buckets I did for a day and a half and then set them in the sun. I still see a couple of spots where the maidens hair is still green. The rest of it turned white. They have been sitting out in the sun for a week now. I just need to know for sure that all that crap is dead. What do you think!!!

Lol I think you probably got it. Scrub the rest off and then I'd soak em in a fresh/de-chlorinator solution. When they dry, the chlorine evaporates, but I'd rather be safe then sorry.

Well I'm gonna cycle them in a tote for about a month or so, and take the rest of my rocks out and replace them with the cycled rock. Do you think this will work. I've never done anything other than cycle the whole tank. I hope it freakin works.

Hmmm, are you going to be able to be at the late chat? We are gonna touch on bryopsis and other nuisance algae and how to take care of it in a running reef tank. I feel like you would be compromising a lot by do that big of a rock swap. How stocked is your tank?

just dip them for an hour or so.. then put them out in the sun till they are white.. (1-2 weeks with a "flip" in there somewhere)

I just ended up boiling my rock, worked like a charm. Although since you bleached it an hour is more then enough. Afterwards just let them dry, then do an ro bath with prime then let dry, then re-cure and your good to go. See you on chat tonight ;)

im gonna bring mine to work and autoclave them after i bleach them :)
whats the "late chat"?
