How long after gluing 1/4" acrylic does it take for the weld-on 16 to set just well enough to move it around to glue another piece? Any tips before I give it a try? Do you try to wipe off any excess?

dont wipe off the excess. and depending on the surronding conditons around 10-15 min till its stiff and tack enough for you to turn your project. Be very careful though and keep it supported the entire time. that bond will not becaome permant for at least a couplke of hours.

If you have a small fan around, I would suggest directing that at your joint, and go read a couple of pages in a book or something, to forget about it for a short while. are you using corner brackets for support?

I've got a 2"x4" that is beveled on the edge at the joint clamped to one piece and putting another against the other side.

Luckily, it doesn't have to hold water or look pretty; I'm making a stand for my skimmer.

cool...best of luck, just remember, to take it slow. FOr me to build an entire sump, it takes all of a good 6hrs, most of that is just waiting. and thats after all my pieces are cut from the day before.

Wow, that stuff is runnier than I thought. I sure am glad I didn't try the weld-on 3 or 4. First joint is glued and is really messy. If I take pictures of this it will only be so you can have a good laugh.

yeah....if youve never used it before I should have suggested that you test it on some scrap but.....as Buck Rodgers would say...."Into the futurrreeee..!!"

You can bend acrylic?

Ha! Thanks, but hopefully my glue job will do the trick. The second joint is glued, doesn't look much better than the first one but I did learn not to squeeze the tube, just tip it and let the stuff run out.

If you are coming along GA 316 and have a few minutes stop by and check out my 120G set up. I'm lways looking for inputs and better ideas.

Ok, I just glued the last piece on the skimmer stand and will leave it cure overnight before trying to put any weight on it. Hopefully, it will hold up under the weight of the skimmer.

Ok, I finished the skimmer stand yesterday and let it cure overnight. This morning I moved it and the skimmer into the sump. It ain't pretty but it is doing what I needed it to do. This freed up a lot of space on my stand that I plan to use for my QT and maybe another small frag tank; and I no longer need to worry about the skimmer overflowing or developing a leak. Thanks to Raj for the good suggestion and to all that gave me good advice.

Looks good Bud! A lot better than just laying something over the sump for the skimmer to sit on!! ;)

You laughing at my plumbing? Looks like my own version of spaghetti junction. I'm sure there's a better way to run all those lines in there but I haven't figured that out yet.
