I think I'm going to go led on my bow and have no idea how many fixtures it would require to light it right. The fixture I'm looking at are 55x3 watt but only push 2watts per led and measure approx 15.75x8.27x2.36 I'm not concerned in lighting the back as that will be just swim space for the fish but rather the 36" space towards front center of the tank. My main corals will be softie and lps but I'm thinking of trying my hand at some sps and a clam or two. From everything i've read on these fixtures that push about as much par as a 250 mh bulb. Any ideas? Or should i just find a 3ft t5 or mh fixture?

I have the fixture your talking about, I'd say two but I'd mount them at an angle. Like...

That's kinda how i was thinking. Would these fixtures be enough light though? My thinking is yes but then again I'm just getting into the led thing as all I've done since I've started in this hobby is t5ho

I have only had mine for two weeks now, everything in my tank seems to not mind the new light. I started mine at 12 inches above the water and plan on eventually getting it down to 6 inches off the water. IMO it will be plenty of light.

I may have to see if he has time for me to check his tank out as i can get to his house in like 2 mins from work

Edit: Hey forgot to ask Rob how are those led fixtures you have doing as far as color and growth on your tank?

i have two ai sol blue units that are mounted at a right angle. i have plenty of light everywhere. My birdsnest is doing great along with my sps. i even have a happy clam and anemone at the very bottom of the tank.
