Will 2 be adequate, inadequate, or more than enough? Doubt it but have to ask if MP10's could be in play as well. It's a 6 foot tank.

I think 2 would be plenty. An MP10 in the middle on the back would be nice for varied flow reasons, and particularly if you use the ES models (one on the back is important to Nutrient Export mode).

+1. I have a MP40 on each side of my 90g and one MP10 on the back and it does a great job. Nutrient Export is a nice feature that you can only use with 3.

Thanks for the replies. Nice to know I'll have a use still for my MP10. It is an es(w). I wanted local opinions as someone on another board said I'd need at least 4 :o. Must have been a vortech salesperson. I can probably swing 2 this year in addition to all the other stuff I'll have to get to get this project rolling but 4 wouldn't happen for a long time.

Keep in mind a tank that size will likely have glass too thick for an MP10.
I have 3 40's on my 120g and it's too much at full throttle for sure. It is nice to have the flow from the back wall though.

Good point. I've read of somebody using one on a large tank, but I'd try to test one before buying.

Already have the MP10 so no big deal to test it. But if it's 3/4" glass there probably isn't a point to trying it. Just need to make sure I place the tank in a way that I can add it later.

Totally depends on the rock layout but if the rock is on the back wall, one on each end and perhaps something supplemental in the middle should be good.
