Hello everyone,
I have a 10gal tank with 2 ocellaris clowns, small LT nem, 4 pieces of coral, 1 sanil and 4 blue leg hermit crabs and was wondering how often you would feed them? I was feeding my 40gal DT everyday, 2 times a day, until I started having a nitrate problem and cut back to every other day, 2 times a day. I also put my 10gal on the every other day twice a day feeding. I am not sure I am feeding the clowns enough. They are active though. Thanks for all info on another one of my crazy questions. Mike:fish:

They should actively eat twice a day for 20-30 seconds is usually how I based mine. When i feed once a day at this rate my pygmy angel gets hungry and noms on my birdsnests. Depends on the fish as well though; you have clowns and they eat anything which means you can feed them something heavy once a day and be just fine. What kinds of food do you think you will feed? That will likely determine how offen or how much to feed.

My suggestion for clowns + LTA would to be to get something frozen that they can eat/like to eat. Brine shrimp with selcon or something similar to reef frenzy. Mine really like reef frenzy, ocean nutrition RDF formula, brines, and some of the other cube mixes. Feed the frozen one day and flake the next; dont throw so much in the tank that alot of it lands on the sand; keep the flow on and keep the food suspended where they can catch it when it floats by. This may mean you have to feed slower; but this will result in less nitrates. On a 10G unless you have a good mechanical filter (that you rinse offen) on it be sure you keep up on the water changes.

"noms on my birdsnests"?!?!? At first I was like :dunno: , then I was like :lol2:...

+1 on a couple of small feedings daily...

Thanks for the input so far. I think I am going to use a baster to feed with a little at a time.

Once every 2-3 days. Or when my YWG is actually out and looking hungry.

This. You must be cautious when feeding a nano, it's just way too easy to screw up.

I feed my nano every other day generally. If I see my flame angel nipping I'll change it up.
