I have a red sea pro no3 test kit and it is reading zero (stays clear), but I have my doubts about it. So, I was wondering how I can create some NO3 in a vial of my tank water to see what the test then reads? Thoughts?

Thanks

Yes put all tiny bit of mysis/ brine in the sample and let it set for a while then test the water. Just a thought

Mix yourself a reference - either get some potassium nitrate (saltpetre) from a drug store or some brands of stump remover from one of the big chain home improvement stores. Or buy a Seachem nitrate test kit (comes with an NO3 reference)/ask nicely at a store that uses them if you can run a test.

I wouln't recommend dosing the first two into a tank as there may be some side ingredients.
