I'm ready to frag a couple pieces of coral, I would love some input. I'm fragging: xinia, favias, zoas, frogspawn, gsp, chalices, and sps (green slimmer and birds nest)

I used a Dremel tool on my frogspawn and just tore the GSP by hand. (Scissors are the most common tool I hear from others.) Haven't done any of the others.

Coral Pedia.com Articles Advanced Fraging.Step by step instructions really made it easy for me.Way easier than I thought.

Edit: See theres a picture of me doing it lol.

Be careful fragging the zoas... they are extremely poisonous and can "burst" when they are cut apart. Wear face protection if you cut them.

My actual prefered way is with a scalpel or bone cutters. A ban saw is better for encrusting corals.

And make you SCRUB AND SCRUB your hands with soap and water when you finish doing the zoas... the residue from their poisonous excretes last for several hours or more and when you think you had it all off... bam you scratch your eye and you have irritation issues... highly painful and annoying!

I have a band saw but the blade isn't fine enough for fraging, where can I find a small fine bandsaw? And how much?

Xenia... stick it near a rock with some bright light and current. Wait a few days and the sucker will frag for you. :) (given the right tank parms, they grow like weeds)

I think most people use a razor for it.

Zoa's - As others have said: the toxin can cause your alot of pain and harm. You need to protect your eyes and hands. Best to view guides on the internet or let someone else help you.

I can get this for you.

We use one and it's ideal for encrusting corals, or ones on rocks up to 3" thick.

I agree

Ive found what works great is the magnifying glasses you wear on your head works great for seeing the space in between small zoas

Good idea, I didn think about the magnifying hat deal, any body know where to pick up a couple scalpels?

+1

And get the kit with a set of various blades.

PS... don't chance it without protection... (I've heard that somewhere before.)

I need to get the xacto kit too. I'm working up the courage to do some first time fragging as well. Oh yeah, and some protection.

Ok I get the zoa poison but there are oodles of bristle worms in my tank, any suggestions on what kind of gloves to wear just incase I encounter one?
