I have a Reef Octopus recirculating skimmer and its been running for about a week but I don't know if I am getting the best out of my skimmer. Does anyone have anyone have any suggestions on this topic?

I'm not familiar with that Skimmer but what I have learned is that oil from my fingers if I have touched the chamber that houses the bubbles it will make Skimmer not run as well. a good vinegar soak them rinse with rodi water helps this.

A Skimmer may take a week or 2 to break in when hooking it up for the first time.

You also have to think about your water quality and if you have nothing to skim then your Skimmer will seem to be skimming less.

Also if you set your Skimmer to skim wet it will fill the collection cup faster and seem like it's skimming more but you may not be pulling any more organics out of the water just more water. If its set to skim dry you have the opposite fill up cup less but it will be more condensed amount. There is still a debate on what is better.

Honestly I have tried to get away from even being concerned if my Skimmer doesn't pull much out this week.

Its the one piece of equipment you spend a lot on that you want to see working cause you spent so much on it yet the flip side is if you have it dialed in and your seeing it skim less cause that means your water is good.
