I think I saw one of these today I fed my fish and saw what looked exactly like a centipede. definitely not a bristle. I think I know what rock he is hiding in and my question is, will a strong reef dip kill him or at least make him mad enough to get out of the rock so I can grab him?

Why would you give advise for something you never herd of??? especially using substance that is not legally obtained for aquarium use...

Interceptor kills crustaceans if used in a tank. About to give it a try. It is not labeled for aquarium use but it can be RX for it in GA.

A quick google search and man are these things nasty. Up to 8 feet long, can survive being cut and will split into multiple worms. Oh and now for the really nasty part:

One more link of someone who found one in his 500 gallon reef tank:

wasn't there a guy in oregon who had a beautiful reef who had the whole thing destroyed by a 6ft eunicid worm? i remember reading about it a few years ago. i also that the GA aquarium or another large aquarium had one.

if i remember correctly taking the rock out and putting it in boiling water was the best solution as the fw didn't phase it.

If you can get the rock out, you can try a fresh water dip/soak and it may come out. Just watch it may come out as soon as you lift the rock out of the water.

This is the post I made two years ago and can be seen here: http://www.atlantareefclub.org/forums/showthread.php?t=12349&highlight=eunicid">http://www.atlantareefclub.org/forums/showthread.php?t=12349&highlight=eunicid</a>

Eunicid that is! I spent the whole day today replacing the sump for my frag tank from a 20L to a 29G. Earlier this afternoon when I was removing the rock I had this guy run over my hand. I tried to grab it before it went back under the rock but it just let the end I had ahold of go. Luckily, I was wearing gloves but I still let out a scream. This is in the bottom of a 18G Rubbermaid tub and I estimate it to be 26-32 inches.

just remove it from the tank.....with the rock if you have to....

I had one of these once. Found it by dumb luck.

I was breaking up a rock with a hammer and chisel. When I picked up the rock to turn it over.
This thing came "oozing" out of the rock. It freaked me out pretty bad, but I managed to hold on to the rock.
It seemed like forever, waiting for it to come all the way out, but it evidentally didn't like what I was doing and chose to leave the rock on its own. Not saying it will work for you, but it might.
Also, you could try mixing some saltwater to 1.031 or higher and put the rock in there.
This works for pest crabs and mantis, but I am not sure about worms.

Also, thanks for reminding me, I think my Eunicid-cicle is still in my freezer!

haha that is hilarious! well to update I took the rock I saw him come out of earlier and tried a iodine dip (i know this is not supposed to work) i figured if nothing else maybe he would be irritated enough to try and leave. no luck all i did was break my red planet!! anyways I was thinking that if anybody had a bristleworm trap I think it would work... the head i saw was pretty small. I would say that it was no larger than my average bristle so maybe it would work!! if anybody has one I can borrow it'll lead to some cool pics!!!!!

I had one.... only way I got him out was to remove the entire rock and do a FW dip (for 4 days)

Interceptor that's the stuff for parasites correcet? Like you get it from a vet? ICAO you may be able to get it from a pharmacy itself. I know at least some states you can get the pharmacist to prescribe scripts.

alright to update I no longer think it is a Eunicid worm. this is the closest thing I've found to the worms exact color and size and they are saying it is some other kind of "reef safe" worm.
a> leave it to me to overreact!! i always assume the worst.
