How to quiet ASM G1X skimmer

I picked up this skimmer used a few weeks ago, and had to order a new impeller. I just installed the new impeller today and set the skimmer in a tub of SW from yesterday's water change and turned it on. It's extremely loud and the sound is from the air intake, not the pump. I'm 2 rooms away and can hear the sucking. My CSS has a silencer but the air hose is much smaller than that on the ASM and I don't think that silencer would allow enough air.

I can make one out of PVC or an old film canister I guess, but haven't seen the inside of the CSS silencer and I'm not sure I'd make it correctly.

On the plus side, it makes a ton of foam and I think will be a great replacement for my Coralife SS...(bought that when I first got into the hobby...)

My G-2 is fairly quiet. Do u have it modded with a gate valve? That should take care of it.

No gate valve mod yet. Still looking into what size diameter tubing I need. I think it's 1.25", but no one around me sells plastic gate valves, so either way I'd have to order one and don't want to have to return it.
