i need to know how to tell if my rbta is splitting . he ate a fish yesterday and looked fine. this morning it was really small and it looks like there is some kind of very small slime on it.also its mouth looks really long and almost looks like you could look threw it and see the rock. it looks like its moving on the rock also. if it is splitting how long should it tank and what do i need to watch out for thanks nemos-buddy:eek:

well dang if he is pooping its the longest i ever seen there is nothing coming from the mouth and i would think that if it was pooping it wouldnt take 4 hrs to poop lolol
maybe i never seen it do this i had a gbta that kinda looked like this . got freaked out thinking it was dying . took it to a lfs got try and see if they could save it and poof there were 2 the next day. i was scared and gave them the anemone they in turn sold both and made 2x the money. i just dont want to make the same mistake

My BTA shrinks every day like clockwork. Sometimes it has a stringy discharge and sometimes none at all. I feed it small pieces of fresh fish every other day and it seems to love it. Only problem is a Coral Banded Shrimp that likes to steal the fish, so I always give him a sacrificial piece so he'll leave the BTA alone.

From start to finish? Under healthy, non-stressful, situations?

Yes, a heathly anemone will take 3-5 hrs to split from start to finish.

I wouldn't say "under... nonstressful situations"

yea... they are funny creatures. Mine will shrink and grow a few times each day. I have found that when I feed him I have to wave a small stick around to keep the shrimp and even the clown away until he gets all of it in his mouth. Also.. due to the other fish moving around him when I feed, he tends to shrink for a longer period of time. (i'm assuming because he felt threatened or bothered)
Knock wood he has not moved that much. (moves around the hole on the same rock, but no where else)
Like I said before, I feel bad for the BTA's. Nobody in the tank respects them. (I'm assuming it is because the have no to very little sting) If I don't wave something around when I feed him then within seconds I have micro stars, cleaner shrimp, tomato clown, serpent star and hermits all swarming over the poor guy. (they go as far as to crawl all over him to get the food.)
