I am shopping for powerheads. I have a 120 gallon mixed reef with not enough flow.
I have 2 Koralias now. I am unsure of what size or model. They are second hand. I had 3 before. One got fried when I was cleaning the tank. Made the mistake of keeping it running,, was in a rush and forgot to put it back in the tank. It melted the gasket.
I know Vortech's are the top dogs. But I can't afford $750+ in power heads right now. I found some Hydor Evo 1400's for about $40 each. I am thinking of getting 4 for my tank and possibly using a controller, rke or apex for a wave maker. I can buy all 4 of them for around $180. Plus a controller for around $500 that will replace all my timers and control my LED lights I am buying to replace my MH, Actinics and Moonlighting.
My questions
Has Hydor actually fixed the motor reversal problem?
Is 4 of these enough? Or does anyone suggest a different idea? Again, $750 plus is out of the picture. I can upgrade to MP40's sometime next year. I NEED FLOW AND I NEED IT NOW!
And can someone with experience and organizational skills make a sticky worthy thread with flow break downs? All corals need different flows. Example: SPS need high flow. But what is high flow? Definition of high flow could be interpreted as pointing a power head directly at a coral.
