So old thread bump but I finally removed the rock and it's been outside for a week or so with kalk paste over the affected areas now I'm wondering how I should proceed.

I think I'm gonna soak the rock in fresh water. But what should I do since the rock will be dead. Can I just throw it back in the tank?

I tracked down the species that did through Colin foord at coral morphologic but was never able to get any.

Tank hasn't been doing well so I decided to do more manual removal.
