No fish that I'm aware of. Some limpets are purported to eat them, but there is little documentation and less market.

In the newbie forum it does not list them as a parasite or nuisance...What's your stance?

They are capable of stinging, and are prolific, but IMO, they are more hassle trying to rid them than just leaving them be. I havent ever heard of anyone losing anything to hydroids.

I honestly don't know where they came from. I used marco rock and bagged caribsea hawaiian black sand.. They just showed up during the cycle!!

I've had some in my tank for years and they haven't become a huge problem. I can knock them back with kalk paste but I can't seem to ever get rid of them. When I do a water change I kalk what I can but have quit pulling my hair out over them. When I first saw them I went crazy trying to eliminate them and was concerned that I'd have to tear down my system and start from scratch. I was miserable with the hobby until I decided to do what I could (kalk & siphon) but not lose sleep over it. So far, so good.

I have a pair of purple people eater polyps where each polyp was surrounded with these guys. The polyps were never hurt by them, but in over a year there has been zero reproduction. Still just two polyps. I just took a pair of tweezers to the hydroids this weekend, so we'll see what happens.

The hydroids that I have don't seem to bother zoas either. I have a few of them growing right next to a small colony of green zoas and they are all open. The zoas and hydroids both seemed to have stopped growing where they meet. I kalk the hydroids that spread out but don't want to damage the otherwise health zoas so I let the closest one's live.
