He's a dull gray with cream to white underside. Only distinguishable color are bright red/orange eyes. This guy's been around awhile and we've seen him just a few times in Loren's 125g.

Over the weekend I set up a 12g nano for Megan's mantis tank. I added one large piece of L/R from Loren's tank, chosing this piece because of its many holes and hiding places. Turns out it's the home of this crab.

This crab has never hurt anything; it lived in a tank with a school of 5 anthias (which also shared the L/R for hiding), a couple of rabbitfish, a yellow damsel, niger trigger, yellow tang and pistol shrimp/goby team. There are also starfish (3), snails, hermits, peppermints, cleaner shrimp and mithrax crabs.

I don't want to kill this guy -- I think he's kind of cool. I'm patiently waiting until the day I can remove him from the nano and put him in a fuge so the mantis can claim his new home.

Anyone have any ideas what it is? Now that it's in the nano and I see him often, I'm hoping to get a picture.

Well, I think I found him. <span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="color: #3399cc;">Eriphia smithi</span></span></em>

This does look just like the critter in the nano. I've named him Smithi/

And his common name in English?

He can't be all bad with a name like "Smithi":D But I would definitely put him in a sump if you can catch him.

I don't think that this is him.

I'll show you some other pictures when you bring me a grilled cheese and a diet coke.
