I have good flow; thinking about adding a Koralia

Which model do you like for a standard 55? I am thinking of something that would gently move water across the width (48") of the tank. I do have good water movement provided by my loctite dual returns. I just want to get rid of the relatively immobile power head.

I would place it about 7 to 9 inches off the bottom and direct it accross the tank?

Thoughts?

Make sure you get a Koralia that has "new" on the box. The older ones tend to leak voltage (I'm still good so far). I have a "3" and a "4" on a 60" 120g and have excellent flow. Though it's only laminar, the corals don't seem to mind it. Just my opinion here but I'd think a 4 might be a little overpowering for a 55...especially if you have a finer grain sand in the tank. I wouldn't hesitate using a 3 in there.

Also, you don't want to include the gph of water returning from the sump as total flow.

No reason not to keep your current powerhead and maybe add a http://www.marinedepot.com/wavemakers_filters_hydor_bioflo_bio_flo_aerobic-ap.html">rotating flow director to it.

Flow is really important, and Koralias are popular... but to me, they're ugly to look at. For that reason I would use several smaller ones and try to hide them (or use a different flow system)

That said, Rob had (3) K4's in a 55 with good results. It took careful aiming, but the corals loved it and no sandstorms.

Just about to say that - little tricky not to create vortexes or splashing, but in the end it worked out great!

I have crushed coral which I will slowly replace with sand - but I am having success so far. Is there another brand that you like besides Koralia. I have 3 power heads that I am not using, but they are a PITA to direct. Thank you.

Hope to see you guys.gals tonight.

If it were me I'd wait a few days until the new version comes out... they can be used on wavemaker devices where the present ones can't. I think they are supposed to release mid-Feb? Of course, a Vortech would be the stuff, but you can buy a lot of Koralias for that kind of coin.

got more info on that?

I have a standard 55 and use 2 k3s with about 350.gph on the return. Everything seems happy.
