Currently I have to fill a 5 gal bucket every 2 to 3 days which is no big deal, it takes about 2 or 3 minutes. Ideally, I would like to draw directly from my 55 gal reservoir. What makes me so hesitant is that the entire reservoir sits 4-5 feet higher than my sump. What kind of redundancy could I put in place that would give me reasonable confidence against failure? Or is this just a bad idea altogether? The feed line extends another 18 inches above the reservoir to get over the doorway.

one easy and fail safe solution

your ATO fill is up and over the top of the tank and directed to dump water directly inside the internal overflow of the tank instead of the sump.

Of course that only works if you have internal overflows and can run the ATO line over the top of the tank. Installed properly it will never create a siphon (end of the ATO line can not touch water!)

Good suggestion but I don't want anything going in above my thank. Trying to keep a clean look.
