i hope i didnt overdose iodine yesturday . i accidently put 3 drops in not paying attention. my pogota didnt want to open today .everything else is great but im oing to do a water change tommorow. are pogotas sensative to iodine.

Iodine is deadly to many organisms in small amounts - natural sea water has concentrations of 40 to 60 parts per billion. As a general rule, don't dose something unless you can test for it.

You likely didn't do damage unless you have a very small tank, but a water change never hurts.

tks its a 29 gallon but with the filtration of a 240 lol. ill def. do the water change. i was told to dose iodine 1 drop once a week that most my corals need it is that wrong help im an oldnewbi lol.

I'd recommend not dosing iodine at all- there's very few situations in my opinion that warrant it. If you do regular water changes, your corals will get all the iodine they could ever need.

kool tks ill mark that off my list of dont add lol. just found out that the srteum i was adding is not needed either. i use io salt have since i stared back and 20 yrs ago when i had a 55 reef love it and it adds all the streuteum (sory cant remember how to spell it)lol im learning so much since getting back into reefing i love it sooo much more than back then . wow its come so far.

What kind of iodine are you using? Lugol's?

If so, it's potent stuff. I used to dose 1 drop a week in my 40g system, as I had a pretty heavy soft coral and crustacean load.

If testing determines you need to supplement iodine, I'd suggest using a more dilute product like Seachem Reef Iodide.. but ONLY if you're testing for it and find that you actually need it. Many tanks do not need it, and more is definitely not better - it can be deadly.

yes it was kents lugols solusion i was doseing 1 drop every week to week and a alf because i have like over 42 corals in a 29 gal. everything has been fine but i accidently put so many drops in i plan on stopping with the iodine forsure.

Test for it - see what your current level is. If need be, do a water change to dilute what got in there by mistake.

No matter what product you add for iodine/iodide (or any other supplement for that matter) one should test for it.

Some may be good, more may not be better. And it's a waste of money to dose something if it's not needed, not to mention it can cause havoc in your tank.
